Respect in Practice

LOVE FOR ALL SENTIENT LIFE

The respect we have in mind is very similar to

an understanding of 'universal love'.

In English the word love has many meanings.

There is for example:

❤︎  Love  of food   (appetite)

❤︎  Falling in  love  (romance)

❤︎  Making  love    (sex)

We're not referring to love in any of the above senses, nor a respect that is more about 'admiration'.

In Greek there are many words for the different kinds of love, where the word agápē perhaps best describes the love and respect for all peoples.

It is sometimes termed  'unconditional love'  because it is a force so powerful, that like the sun it cannot be turned on and off or withheld, shining on all without distinction as an "ever-fixed mark."

This understanding of love calls us to respect all sentient life regardless of our personal preferences.

CIVIL-ISATION recognises that in practice this might be very challenging.

But that even if we cannot fully realise this objective,

we should at least acknowledge its validity as the ideal required to promote the culture of peace

SO HERE ARE SOME IDEAS THAT MIGHT BE HELPFUL:
