THE HUMILITY OF RESPECT
It is inspiring to reach the understanding that respect, like love is not a commodity that can be bought or sold -
For the more you give the more you have to give.
The implication is profound because if our love is unconditional, we can respect all without imposing limits.
Of course, this 'respect' is not the same as 'admiration', which is a personal judgement.
The respect championed by CIVIL-ISATION is that which emanates from the innate dignity of man, or for some, the sanctity of all life.
One definition of civilisation is the acceptance that respect need not be 'earned' but is given freely, in a society with a culture of trust.
A confident society need not judge others except through its mutually agreed laws.
Such a culture might recognise violence and anger as natural though ultimately unhelpful for conflict resolution.
